Pharmacy Technician

Location: Louisville, Kentucky

Description: University of Louisville Health Care is employing Pharmacy Technician right now, this occupation will be ordered in Kentucky. Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist(s) on duty, performs technical and manipulative tasks required to receive, prioritize, record, process, fill, deliver, and ! bill medication orders and stock requisitions, inclusive of those which require the preparation of IV admixtures or other sterile products. Assists in the procurement, receipt and proper storage of drugs and general supplies. Interacts frequently with patients, visitors, hospital staff, physicians and/or vendor representatives. Maintains appearance and integrity of work area. Demonstrates competence to provide aspects of pharmaceutical care for neonatal (birth-11 months), pediatric (12 months-11 years), adolescent (12-17), adult (18-65), and geriatric (66-over) patients.

Job Duties:
Accurately compounds, labels and fills medications for dispensing as ordered (includes processing of new orders, unit-dose carts, pass and discharge prescriptions). Accurately packages and labels unit-dose medications as required.

Processes and fills all floor stock requisitions. Assists in timely completion of all billing activities.

Functions in capacity o! f courier delivering medications to patient care areas in a ti! mely manner, includes delivery and exchange of unit-dose carts, routine and special deliveries, and operation of pneumatic tube system. Accurately fills crash carts; delivers restocked carts to patient care areas.

Assists in procurement, receipt and proper storage of drugs and general supplies. Maintains appropriate stock levels within work area; routinely checks inventory for appropriate dating. Assists with annual pharmacy inventory as assigned.

Handles admission, discharge and transfer notices within work area.

Answers, screens and directs calls; receives information, assists callers and distributes messages as required.

Maintains neatness and cleanliness of work/break areas. Performs general clerical duties; organizes and files medication orders; maintains pharmacy records, reference texts, etc., as required.

Maintains inventory and distribution records of all drugs including narcotics and investigational drugs, as required b! y law and in accordance with hospital policy. As required and assigned, trains and works in area(s) of narcotic processing, purchasing, and/or ambulatory care services.

After special training: Accurately compounds and labels all types of IV admixtures and other sterile products (inclusive of parenteral nutrition solutions, and antibiotic bead implants as required).

After special training: Proficiently performs computer order-entry functions to maintain medication profiles.

After special training: As assigned, assists pharmacist(s) with information/data collection for patient rounds or drug utilization evaluation.

After special training: Maintains appropriate stock levels of IV medications and batched IV admixtures.

After special training: Adheres to infection control procedures and guidelines for handling of cytotoxic agents.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & TR! AINING:
High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE:
One! year hospital or retail pharmacy experience preferred.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
Must be registered as a pharmacy tech in Kentucky
