Walgreens Community Pharmacy Residency Program is a postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists to enhance their skill set in the community pharmacy setting. The residency is academically affiliated and financially supported, in part, by the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy. The majority of the residency experience will be located in Louisville, KY at Walgreens pharmacies. This residency will allow the pharmacist to build on their professional skills by providing a variety of patient care services.

Pharmacists in this setting will have a direct influence on patient outcomes through participation in patient counseling, immunization services, health screen-ings, disease state management, and Medication Therapy Management. There will be additional experiences with established HIV programs in the Louisville and southern Indiana areas. Residents will also work to develop collaboration with other area providers and communit! y stakeholders. The pharmacist will complete a teaching certif! icate program and will assist in teaching opportunities and precepting experiences for the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy. The residency program graduates will be leaders in the pharmacy community and will have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.

This new program is seeking accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).

Residency Activities
The resident will participate in the provision of patient-care services through the following:
Development of collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
Medication Therapy Management
Assist in delivery of complex HIV/AIDS medication education
Patient counseling
Conduct health testing services
Evaluate the sustainability of new patient care programs
Enhance existing patient care programs
Administer immunizations
Complete a Teaching Certificate Program Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students
Design and conduct a practice based residency project
Present residency project findings at a professional conference
Smoking cessation coaching
Provide clinical instruction to student pharmacists at the college of pharmacy

Residents are eligible for Paid Time Off (PTO). The rate at which you accrue your PTO will be based on your years of service, average hours per week, and position. Resident pharmacists may accrue ap-proximately 15 days (120 hours) depending on average hours worked and time in position. Team members will also receive 6 company paid holidays after meeting eligibility requirements.
