THE ROLE
The Investment Director will be responsible to oversee the development activities of Starlight in Romania. Starlight is developing a local pipeline of solar PV assets for a total capacity of 1GWp, with the support of external advisors and local partners. The Investment Director will act as our local representation in Romania, coordinating our development activities with diverse stakeholders and counterparties, and actively expanding our footprint in the local market. Origination of new business opportunities and positioning of our value proposition in the Romanian market would be their key responsibilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting Starlight in designing and implementing the development strategy of renewable energy assets (not only solar PV) in Romania, managing the existing and new relationships, and leading the operating activities in strict coordination with other divisions of Starlight and NextEnergy Group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and be accountable for the current development activities in Romania
- Assume the role of Director for the SPVs
- Oversee the activities performed by external parties involved in the development process, ensuring alignment and cooperation for the purpose of achieving the ready-to-build status for the assets under development
- Originate further initiatives to pursue in order to increase the size of the pipeline in the country
- Explore the best business options for the financing and monetization of the assets under development, to be then implemented at various stages of the asset’s life cycle
- Manage relationships with other internal divisions of Starlight (financial, technical, and legal) and the Group (central functions) in order to ensure every project is developed in alignment with the best market standards and the strategy set
- Develop relationships with other local counterparties, such as accountants, tax advisors, market consultants, etc. in order to create a network to rely on in case of need
- Drive the strategic thinking of Starlight to assess any potential risk and explore any potential opportunity to expand the business of Starlight in Romania
- Analyse the market/regulation and actively participate in conferences and key stakeholders’ events to anticipate and address the local political decisions and regulatory changes which are relevant for Starlight business in Romania.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have to demonstrate:
- Entrepreneurial approach and problem solving mindset – development business needs strong adapting skills to a number of different scenarios in order to reach the target
- Project management mastering – development activities requires strong capabilities to structure and then follow-up complex and overlapping processes, which entail the involvement of internal and external counterparties
- Delivery focus – it may sound obvious, but the ability to proactively churn through work at pace and deliver quality outputs really matters
- Excellent communication and commercial skills (in English, Romanian, and other languages if possible) – ability to organize thoughts in a way that others find them clear, compelling and commercially sounding is of paramount importance. And this is expected to be done well in writing, through grammatically correct communications as well as verbally
- Time management and prioritization skills - things can get a little hectic, so the ability to effectively manage him or herself and workload is critical
- Flexibility - being an effective team player means being flexible in the approach and open to getting involved with new things, even if they are not spelled out in the job description
- Intellectual curiosity – the role embrace a broad and nuanced field and Starlight is looking for someone who is truly interested in the sector and has the intellectual curiosity to delve deep into topics and bring fresh ideas into the team
- IT literacy – it is required to be comfortable with IT systems and working with data (an at least intermediate-level of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is a must)

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-10 years of experience as a Development, Financial or Investment Manager in the renewable energy market in Romania – ideally solar PV
- Bachelor’s Degree with quantitative focus (e.g., Finance, Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Economics)
- Previous experience collaborating with developers, financial advisors, industrial players or infrastructure/private equity funds is highly valuable
- Good understanding of local market dynamics, regulations and contract law
