DUTIES:
The Lexington VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Chief, Primary Care Service. The primary care program manages over 30,000 veterans served at the Leestown Campus as well as at CBOCs in Berea, Morehead, Hazard, and Somerset Kentucky. The service has enthusiastically embraced Primary Care Aligned Team (PACT) principles and has an active Health Promotion and Disease Prevention program. Secure messaging and clinical videoconferencing have been successfully implemented.

The Chief, Primary Care will report directly to the Chief of Staff and will have responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the primary care clinics in Lexington and at the CBOCs. The incumbent will supervise clinic physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists, and preventive care program staff. The incumbent will work closely with Patient Care Services and Health Administration Service to ensure that quality care is delivered in a timely, cost effective manner via an interdisciplinary team and with a patient centered approach. The position is 75% administrative, with approximately 25% time devoted to direct patient care . Primary Care clinics operate from Monday- Friday, 8:00-4:30. Occasional after-hour or weekend clinics are held. Duties will include strategic planning for the delivery of primary care and related services; coordinating budget needs to manage the service in an efficient manner; and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and with performance measures. The incumbent will develop health care professionals through mentoring and teaching. The incumbent will promote an environment that provides exceptional patient care through education, training, planning, and monitoring. The incumbent will promote organizational stewardship via participation on medical center and VISN committees and by serving as a professional liaison to other VA facilities, federal agencies, and community affiliates. Evidence based practice and population management are the cornerstone of Primary Care in the new VA. With the implementation of new models of care and the transformational initiatives for the 21 st century this position provides a challenging and exciting opportunity for qualified candidates.

The Lexington VA Medical Center is a fully accredited, two-division tertiary care medical center with an operating bed complement of 199 beds. Acute medical, neurological, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient services are provided at the Cooper Drive Division which is located adjacent to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The Leestown Division, located five miles from Cooper Drive, offers Primary Care, Mental health, nursing home care, hospice and respite care, residential treatment for PTSD and Substance Use Disorder, and womenÂ's health care.

The Veteran population in LexingtonÂ's primary service area is estimated at more than 92,000. The Lexington VA Medical Center is part of the VA MidSouth Healthcare Network (VISN 9), which consists of six VA medical centers in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, with community based outpatient clinics in those states as well as Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia, and Indiana.

The Lexington VA Medical Center is affiliated with the University of Kentucky Healthcare System. The facility has a strong teaching mission which can be reflected in the education opportunities it provides to over 1000 medical students, residents, and fellows each year. Research is another important aspect of the mission of the Lexington VAMC with approximately 40 active research projects.

Qualifications that are considered to be enhancing:
A board-certified internist is preferred. Strong administrative, managerial, and leadership skills in the areas of physician management, quality improvement, system redesign, cost containment, financial management, and human resource management are recommended. Faculty appointment at the University of Kentucky at the Associate Professor or Professor level is optional.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement). Part-Time Example : Mr. Pluto is 40 hours biweekly his entire career (.5 FTEE). Say he is 60

with 20 years of service. His high 3 salary was $200,000. His formula would be 1% of $200,000

x 20 = $40,000 x a part-time proration factor of 50% would bring it down to $20,000 per year.

Full-Time Example : Mr. Mickey is 80 hours bi-weekly (1 FTEE) with 30 years of service and his

high 3 salary was $200,000: His formula would be 1% x 200,000 x 30 years of service = $60,000

per year.

SOCIAL SECURITY is based on your personal contributions. Here is a planner that provides detailed

THRIFT SAVINGS PLAN . Taxed-deferred savings plan. Employee may contribute up to $16,500 per
