The role of the pharmacy system automation specialist is to support and assist the pharmacy director(s) in the oversight of automation and technology and its function in the medication use process throughout the Norton Healthcare system. The pharmacy system automation specialist will focus on ensuring an efficient distributive process and will be proactive on addressing any medication safety issues. The pharmacy system automation specialist will conduct ongoing analysis and monitoring of the system using applicable reports to assess inventory management, proper controlled substance documentation/administration, evaluate override use and proactively address any service issues. The pharmacy system automation specialist interacts with employees on site at all facilities, be able to function as a resource for each facili! ty and will need to have their own transportation available. Regularly scheduled pharmacy technician duties will be required.

The pharmacy system automation specialist will coordinate and provide automation training for the system for both pharmacists and technicians. This responsibility will include both orientation and training of new staff as well as ongoing maintenance of staff competency for automation use and the trouble shooting of problems. The pharmacy system automation specialist will work with the facility lead automation technician as appropriate to assure education is done and documented.

Additionally, the pharmacy system automation specialist will maintain a central list of all automation equipment by type, serial number and location and will track all movement of equipment within the system. They will work with the Pharmacy Inventory Technician and Pharmacy Director to assure all automation invoices are paid appropriately at the facility lev! el.

Required

Registered Technician with Ky Board of P! harmacy or eligible, Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

Minimum of 12 months experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing applicable technology and automation
Successful completion of required competencies regarding Pyxis.
Basic knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing
Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and analytic skills
Proficient knowledge of medical terminology Desired
