This job is responsible for routinely compounding and distributing medication and pharmaceutical supplies, in both IV admixture and pharmacy distribution! areas, in accordance with facility standards and procedures and regulatory requirements. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Essential Duties:
Assists pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to include (but not limited to) mixing of IVs, distribution of medication, screening phone calls/orders and alerting the pharmacist to patient-specific data indicating potential medication misadventure.
Distributes medication to the patient care areas via automated medication distribution or non-automated systems and is responsible for maintaining these systems.
Reviews and files all required reports from both the automated and non-automated systems and is responsible for documenting QA data.
Maintains a clean and safe environment for co-workers which includes preparing work area for next shift and using effective communication with oncoming shift.
Coordinates the workflow of the IV room and uses ap! propriate aseptic technique; maintains a clean IV admixture ar! ea; understands and applies the concept of the âcleanroomâ environment and abides by ASHP guidelines.
Meets completion for all educational modules; attends staff meetings on a regular basis.
Keeps abreast of departmental changes and is familiar with current Policy and Procedures along with JCAHO requirements.
Performs monthly patient care area inspections and reports as assigned by the Manager.
Precepts students within the Technician Training Program by assisting them in their education and growth.
Possess working knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Communicate with colleagues and patients in a professional manner.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Pharmacy technician certification required.
Experience:
One year of hospital work experience or hospital rotation within an accredited training program preferred but not required.
I! V admixture and chemotherapy experience preferred but not required.
License/Certification:
Pharmacy technician certification required.
