Pharmacy Technician Senior/UKHC

Assists pharmacists in data entry of patient information, prescription processing, medication preparation and distribution for the Meds-To-Beds Delivery program of the Ch! andler Retail Pharmacy operating under the University of Ky Pharmacy Services. Collects prescriptions and personal information, including insurance information, from patient rooms, over the phone, via fax or through the electronic medical record systems. Performs basic math skills. Fills prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, including non-sterile compounding. Delivers prescriptions to patient's bedside and collects payment. Uses a point of sale system and multiple computer devices and programs. Candidate must be able to walk about the medical campus sometimes for long distance, must be able to stand for long periods of time, must be able to communicate effectively with patients, family members, and professional staff, must be able to lift greater than 30 pounds, and must be able to lift and reach above shoulder level.

Effective 4/1/09, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy ! requires all pharmacy technicians to be registered with the state and pay a $25 fee within 30 days of hire. This registration must be renewed annually.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Requires attention to detail and the ability to provide excellent customer service. Must be self-motivated and be able to stay on task. May include standing and/or walking for greater than 5 hours at a time. Walking could be of significant distance throughout the medical center campus. May require the ability to reach items above the shoulder level. Must be reliable and punctual. This position requires teamwork, good communication skills and interpersonal skills to be applied with both patients and other medical professionals.
Preferred Education / Experience
National Pharmacy Technician Certification from PTCB required. Retail and/or Hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred but not required.
