Certified Pharmacy Technician
Job Summary The Certified Level III Technician (CphT Level III) will perform a variety of duties rela! ted to medication reconciliation and inventory control. While under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Certified Level III technician will perform medication reconciliation for Fort Logan Hospital by creating a complete list of the patient’s current medications during admission to Fort Logan Hospital. They will compare the medications that are ordered, administered, or dispensed while at Fort Logan Hospital to the patient’s historical medication list and address any omissions, duplications, or other potentially harmful discrepancies. To improve continuity of care, they will perform performance improvement activities related to medication reconciliation and work to impact the safety of the medication reconciliation process through staff education. In addition to medication reconciliation responsibilities, the Certified Level III Technician will serve as the inventory control pharmacy technician. The Certified Level III Technician will assure that all purchased items ar! e entered into the database with bar code and purchasing infor! mation which matches Meditech and Omnicell database. This position will be responsible for managing on-hand inventory for both direct purchases and wholesale purchases to assure adequate supply on hand to meet demands. The CphT Level III will serve as the administrator for the 340b split billing software. The CphT Level III is responsible for the return of inventory and destruction of expired or damaged drugs through reverse distributor contract. The CphT Level III meets regularly with wholesaler and manufacturer or supplier representatives to assure best pricing and contracts are applied to eligible purchases. The CphT Level III supports the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) or Director by providing monthly utilization of drug reports, contract compliance report analysis, new purchasing contract analysis, evaluates and responds to budget variance reports for drug and supply purchases, provides monthly transaction and inventory transfer reports for billing outside vendors, pharmac! ies, clinics or departments. In addition, the CphT Level III will be involved in education of staff in preparation to meet Joint Commission Accreditation Standards. Must be able to perform functions required in the unit dose area, drug distribution process and IV room. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. Values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust). Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort The Certified Level III Technician will have limited office and storage space. Must be organized and attentive to detail. Must have good communication skills. Stress from deadlines and strict regulations. Occasional prolonged sitting, standing, or walking. Some lifting of supplies/equipment. Must be able to lift 25 pounds independently. Must be able to withstand working on the units and entering patient rooms. May have exposure to bodily fluids and blood. Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents Education: Minimum requirement: High School graduate. Business related or computer t! raining via technical school or college preferred. Prefer individuals w! ith training/courses in communicative skills. Experience: At least two (2)years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician either within the hospital or retail setting or a LPN, CMA, or other professional with experience concerning medication histories and medication regimens. Experience with inventory management, wholesale and GPO contract applications and Billing/Accounts Payable beneficial. Omnicell and Meditech experience preferred. Project management and implementing change in drug distribution and pharmacy work flow experience preferred. EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Typing skills and computer experience including a working knowledge of Microsoft® Excel and Word documents. Working experience with Meditech preferred. Use of Wholesale software for electronic ordering and reporting. Close attention to details for contract and database builds. Autonomous and proactive work ethic. Ability to multitask. Ability to solve problems independently. Follow through with res! olution to problems. Communicate problems and resolutions to Pharmacist-in-Charge and departmental Associates. Diplomatic in language. Ability to work well with professional representatives to resolve contract or billing disputes. Ability to outline detailed process for training new associates to tasks assigned including Technical troubleshooting. Ability to provide feedback to pharmacy associates on performance In professional and constructive manner. Displays good written and verbal communication with Coworkers and Pharmacist-in-Charge. Ability to determine financial impact of contract change on budget. Ability to provide graphical depiction of budget, purchasing, compliance with quality initiatives. Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations If a pharmacy technician, certification is required. Must obtain required CEU to maintain registration. Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the KY Board of Pharmacy is required.
