You will be subject to review by a Professi! onal Standards Board. DUTIES:
(1) Prepares, processes, fills, labels, records, and delivers orders/prescriptions for narcotics, controlled substances, and alcohol. Prepares and prepacks narcotics, controlled substances, and alcohol in suitable quantities and containers. Maintains absolute vault and drug security when working in vault. Handles problems concerning this section with Hospital personnel.
(2) Maintains inventories of narcotics, controlled substances, and alcohol. Maintains records and files concerning utilization (prescriptions, ward orders, and unit dose), inventories and receiving of narcotics, controlled substances, and alcohol. Conducts a full inventory and reconciliation every 72 hours. Interacts with the Controlled Substances inspection officials.
(3) Verifies that CII written prescriptions exist and are appropriately posted for all CII electronic prescriptions filled.
(4) Keeps record of all controlled substances and nar! cotics, as they occur, that are to be destroyed.
(5) Keeps Pharmacy Procurement Techs and Pharmacy Drug Control Manager apprised of controlled drug stock levels and the need to re-order in a timely manner.
(6) Maintains accurate dispensing records.
(7) Files documents in a retrievable manner.
(8) As part of the overall Pharmacy Quality Assurance Program, the incumbent will ensure adherence to all drug distribution policies involving processing, storage, preparation, dispensing, availability, and record-keeping in accordance with established policies as required to promote patient safety and maintain high quality patient care.
(9) Incumbent is to be proficient with all aspects of Inpatient Pharmacy related Automatic Data Processing. The technician will be familiar with all computer equipment, both hardware and software, and be able to solve any minor problems associated with their use. He/she should also be well versed in manual b! ackup procedures in the event of computer shutdown. Incumbent should re! port any problems not immediately remedied to the appropriate supervisor.
(10) Provides controlled substance training for technicians, pharmacists, inspectors, students, etc.
(11) Ability to function in lower grade pharmacy technician position as needed.
(12) Performs any duties and special projects deemed necessary by the Chief, Pharmacy Service, for the proper operation of the Pharmacy Service. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GS-6:
Experience: At least 1 year of experience at the next lower level that demonstrates the core competencies (KSAs) described at the GS-5 level.

Employees will be evaluated in accordance with current VA and/or Medical Center policies. Applicants will be evaluated according to the degree to which they possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (KSAO's). 1. Knowledge of medications including brand and generic nomenclature, usual and available strengths, and common dosage forms.
2. Skilled in independently preparing medication orders and prescriptions in accordance with pertinent policies, rules and regulations prior to pharmacistÂ's final check of the work.
3. Ability to Ability to work in both the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy areas to include IV compounding, prescription and medication order processing, and inventory management.
4. Other factors include exceptional customer service and team building. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
