Staff Pharmacist

Under supervision of the director and managers, perform all duties necessary to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental dispensing and clinical serv! ices. Supervises support staff in all work performed. Demonstrates competence to provide pharmaceutical care for neonatal (birth-11 months), pediatric (12 months-11 years), adolescent (12-18 years), adult (19-65 years), and geriatric (66 years and over) patients.
1.
Interprets and evaluates all physician=s medication and IV admixture orders with clarification as deemed necessary according to professional judgements.
2.
Accurately compounds, labels, and dispenses medications to both inpatients and outpatients in accordance with all regulations regarding pharmacy practice.
3.
Properly maintains records as required.
4.
Advises the prescriber, nurse, and patient as required regarding the availability, contents, therapeutic action, utilization, and possible adverse reactions or interactions of drugs.
5.
Accurately compounds all types of IV admixtures and other sterile products, utilizing appropriate technique.

6.
Directly supervises support staff in the proper pa! ckaging, labeling, and distribution of sterile and nonsterile medications.
7.
Controls the disposition of narcotics, other scheduled drugs, dangerous drugs, and investigational drugs as required by state and federal regulations.
8.
Assists in the training and orientation of new employees and students.
9.
Responds to drug information requests as required.
10.
Participates in all clinical programs as required, including patient rounds, antimicrobial team, nutritional support, pharmacokinetic dosing, patient discharge consultation, etc.
11.
Rotates through all departmental service areas as required.
12.
Performs and documents all nursing unit inspections and other quality assurance activities as assigned on a monthly basis.
13.
Accurately check unit dose carts as assigned.
14.
Perform computer order-entry functions as assigned.
15.
Provides assistance to technic! al staff when necessary.
16.
Responsible for printing and distribution of computerized Medication Administration Records, Medication Renewal Notices, and other reports as required.
17.
Organizes and ensures completion of daily operational duties within assigned work area.
18.
Participates in quality assurance activities, as required.
19.
Assists in procurement, receiving, and storage of all drugs and supplies.
20.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy is required; Doctor of Pharmacy Degree is desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
Hospital experience is desirable.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
Registered pharmacist or eligible for registration in Kentucky.
